This lovely 1850\'s gown has been hand cut and embroidered, including the robings and the lace edge frill around the neck to the back bodice, is an exceptional Gown which dates to the 1850\'s. There is a similar gown to this in style, design and make in the Blaise House Collection. Having similar neckline and construction but without the robings to the skirt. The bodice is fitted, deep and straight at the waistline. Having vertical pin tucks at the back ties at the neck and waistband. This gown also Includes a neat fabric covered bottom at middle back bodice to fasten. Long embroidered sleeves into straight cuffs. This gown could have been made for a girl or a boy in the mid 19th Century. The skirt is exceptionally long and sweeps out, a row of cut work (later to become known as Broderie Anglaise) and embroidery all around the bottom hemline. It has a narrow bodice and would not be suitable for a large or older baby. It measures 9.5 inches, armhole to armhole. The waist measures 16 inches, which is quite small. From shoulder to hem, this gown measures 46 inches in length.
Very good antique condition and is perfect for a Christening or collector.
The work of this remarkable gown is lovely antique, all original and in excellent condition. This gown is 160 years old but, it is strong and has survived so well.
